Coconut Oil is an edible oil, extracted from the meat of mature coconuts. It is often hailed as “the healthiest dietary oil on earth” by Dr Jon Karbara and Dr Bruce Fife, both considered amongst the world’s leading experts on dietary fats and oils. There is an overwhelming amount of information about Coconut Oil on the internet, but we’d like to refer our customers to Dr. Bruce Fife’s website. Having believed for many years that coconut oil is a “bad” saturated fat, Dr. Bruce Fife was surprised to find that the biomedical literature itself indicates coconut oil has profound value in human nutrition and medicine. The medium-chain fats in Coconut Oil are similar to the natural fats in breast milk and in turn, possess similar nutriceutical effects. These health benefits were recognized centuries ago in Ayurvedic medicine. Research has shown that it is easier for our bodies to digest, absorb and oxidize the medium-chain fatty acids in Coconut Oil, as compared to the long-chain fatty acids that are commonly found in vegetable oils.
Coconut Oil can either be homemade, farm based, or manufactured in a processing factory. These settings all adopt different processing methods and produce varying qualities of Coconut Oil. Not all organic coconut oils were created equal and some labels can be misleading.
What is certain is that refined (not virgin) varieties will have no aroma or flavour whatsoever. Unrefined, virgin varieties will have recognizable coconut aromas and flavors that will vary from very mild to very prominent, which is dependent on the freshness of the coconut, processing method employed and the particular batch. The highest quality of organic virgin coconut oils would have very delicate and subtle, fresh coconut aroma. According to Dr Bruce Fife, high quality virgin coconut oils should be snow white in colour when it is solid and water clear when liquid.

There is no official definition for “Extra”, “Cold Pressed” and “Raw” plus no regulation to define grading. If the lack of official definition is confusing enough, different organic certification bodies have their own certification standards.
The Asia Pacific Coconut Community standards for Virgin Coconut Oil requires a minimum of <0.2% Free Fatty Acid level, to ensure the oil’s fresh taste and overall quality. Coconut Matter’s WILD Virgin Coconut Oil regularly falls below a <0.1% FFA level.

Coconuts are not classified as nuts. According to the Australasian Society of Clinical Immunology and Allergy, allergic reactions to eating coconut have been reported, but are relatively rare.
For your peace of mind, our Coconut Oil is produced and bottled in nut free, peanut free and dairy free production plants.
If this happens, try using less Coconut Oil or wait a couple of seconds for the oil to absorb into skin before putting on your clothes. If it still happens, try a different brand.

When properly stored in a dry place, Coconut Oil will last more than 2 years. To prevent rancidity, store away from damp areas and ensure that it does not come in direct contact with water. Because it is a stable, natural oil that is high in saturated fat, it does not require refrigeration.
We suggest using clean utensils to decant our coconut oil into small glass containers for separate use in the bathroom, bedroom or kitchen to avoid contamination.
Yes. Coconut Oil is a clear liquid when the temperature is above 26°C/ 78°F and it cools to a solid matter below 23°C/73°F. As the weather cools, the Coconut Oil starts to crystalise and small white “pearls” will begin to form at the bottom of your jar.
This natural transformation does not affect the quality or nutritional value of the oil. As it is an organic, unrefined product, each batch may differ in appearance – some are completely clear, whilst others have begun to crystalise as the seasons change. This transformation is all part of the wonder of a totally natural product.
There are a few options to safely melt Coconut Oil when it is solid:
· Place your sealed jar of Coconut Oil into a bowl of warm water.
· For cooking: scoop it out of the jar and put it directly into a hot pan.
· For skin/hair/oral care: natural body warmth melts the Coconut Oil quickly.
Tip: Keep a small jar next to your shower or near a heater, where the temperature is warm enough to melt the Coconut Oil for easy, regular use.
Our Production Process
95% of the World’s coconut palms are in the hands of smallholder farmers, situated within family gardens. Most of these coconuts are harvested and shipped to be produced into coconut oil. This is a time consuming and expensive process that unfortunately offers very little return for local farmers and the environment. At Coconut Matter, we endeavour to do things differently, because sustainability matters.
DME™ (Direct Micro Expelling) was invented by Dr Dan Etherington in 1994. It has since been set up in the Pacific, Indonesia, India, PNG, Solomon Islands, Caribbean, Africa and in the Indian Ocean with dramatic effects on the lives of local communities. The multi award winning DME™ farm based process involves heat in the drying of freshly grated coconut. This heating process is extremely gentle and the coconut matter is constantly hand tossed to speed up the drying process. The coconut is warmed between 45°C (110°F) and 60°C (130°F) during the drying process. This stage takes about 20 to 30 minutes (depending on the humidity, temperature, breeze, etc).
No heat is generated in the gentle hand-pressing of our single-pressed WILD Virgin Coconut Oil. The oil is not heated at all after it has been procured. This is regarded as a “cold” process by oil extraction standards.

The WILD virgin coconut oil from the Solomon Islands is comprised of between 49% and 51% Lauric Acid. The amount of Lauric acid is determined primarily by the variety of coconut palm, but may also be due to the specific growing conditions and the age of the coconut. Often companies will state their oil has 50% or more Lauric acid, when in fact it only occasionally reaches this level. We recommend that you research thoroughly before making your purchase.
It is also worth noting that Lauric Acid is only one of the medium-chain fatty acids (MCFA) in coconut oil. The draw card of consuming Lauric Acid is primarily how it is one of the strongest antimicrobials known to mankind. Other fatty acids include Capric and Caprylic acids which can be easily broken down within the body and are recommended for weight loss, thyroid and digestion function. Caprylic acid has proven to be an effective antifungal treatment. This combination of fatty acids works in sync within the body to fight off unwanted organisms and keep our system healthy. Although the name may be misleading, fatty acids are actually an important part of a regular healthy functioning body.

FREE is a neutral tasting oil and fragrant fee. Often use as a carrier oil to dilute essential oils, FREE is also indispensable in the modern day kitchen for everyday cooking oil including baking and frying. FREE is lightly steamed to remove its coconut aroma, without compromising its original antimicrobials. The result is a versatile oil for healthy living. It is also guaranteed non-GMO, non-hydrogenated and hexane free.
At above 26°C, WILD is a colourless liquid while FREE is liquid with a hint of gold.
When we want pure, fragrant free oil without the coconut flavor, we choose FREE. It is easily absorbed by our body, so we like to combine it with essential oils. It is also stable, withstands high temperatures and does not break down easily compared to other oils, preventing the development of free-radicals and Trans fats at high heat.
We source fresh coconuts from organic farmers, which are sun dried and pressed in a community oil mill. The oil mill filters the coconut oil and it is refined with activated carbon, bleaching clay and finally lightly steamed to remove the coconut’s distinct aroma.
FREE does not offer the same health benefits of a virgin, completely raw coconut oil, but it is still an excellent source of beneficial fatty acids (like MCTs). It is non-GMO, non-hydrogenated and hexane free.
Without a certification number, a product is not truly Certified Organic, so please check labels thoroughly before purchasing. Coconut Matter’s Certification Number is 2611P, certified by Australia’s leading organic certifier, the NASAA. Each product is printed with a batch number that links our organic coconut products back to the farmer.
Having a certified organic product means that each product can be traced from your family home, right back to our family run farms. Our coconut products are made in a transparent, traceable production cycle, void of any chemical pesticides and fertilisers.
Oil pulling has its origins in Ayurvedic medicine dating back to 3,000 years ago. It’s just like using a high quality organic oil as a mouthwash to help cleanse the mouth. Oil Pulling helps to reduce plaque and gingivitis, prevent bad breath and diminish tooth sensitivity substantially. It is a great supplemental therapy to routine dental visits and traditional at-home oral care.
One could use any oil for oil pulling as most microorganisms living in our mouth consist of a single cell that is covered with a fatty membrane. When these cells come into contact with oil, as “a fat”, they naturally stick together. We prefer to use Organic Virgin Coconut Oil. It contains 50% Lauric acid that is known for its antimicrobials, which inhibits strep mutans – the primary bacteria that cause tooth decay. Oils with Omega 6 fat are also pro-inflammatory.
The best time to try Oil Pulling is in the morning before eating breakfast, but it can technically be done before any meal. Take just under one tablespoon of WILD and swish it gently for 10 to 30 minutes while you read or check emails. If your jaw starts to ache after five minutes, slow down as you are working too hard. Your mouth will feel fuller as the oil collects the fat and saliva; it will turn milky white in colour. Once you have finished pulling, discard the swished oil into the bin. Do not discard the oil into the sink or down the toilet as it could potentially clog your pipes. Rinse with water or salt water before you consume a beverage or sit down for breakfast.
Oil pulling has a powerful detoxifying effect. Dr. Bruce Fife suggests regular oil pulling can help sufferer of asthma, allergies, chronic fatigue, diabetes, migraine headaches, PMS, and chronic skin problems.
WILD organic virgin coconut oil is a natural, soothing skin moisturiser and can infuse our skin with many valuable nutrients. It is predominantly made up of Lauric acid. Lauric acid helps to keep the skin healthy and boosts metabolism, improving cellular activity and promoting healing.
We take a small amount of WILD and apply a thin layer as a face and body moisturizer. We also dab WILD on cotton pad as a makeup remover, mix WILD with sugar or coffee to form a body scrub and use WILD solely as a natural deodorant. WILD is effective in calming skin inflammation such as adult acne, mosquito bites, eczema, and candida. WILD absorbs very well if a thin layer has been applied to the skin.
For hair care, we typically massage a small amount of WILD into our scalp as hair mask and leave it overnight or as a protective layer on our hair before swimming in a chlorine pool. When using WILD on the hair, always remember that less is more – unless you’re doing a deep leave-in mask that you will wash out of your hair later, your hair shouldn’t appear heavy or greasy.
Unlike most cooking oils, WILD Virgin Coconut Oil is cold processed and unrefined, making it one of the healthiest cooking oils on earth. Coconut Oil also has a high smoke point of 175°C/ 350°F, making it ideal for everyday cooking. Additionally, it can also be used:

- As a booster in juice, smoothies, coffee or tea
- As a healthy and vegan substitute for butter or lard

Coconut oil is very stable and not easily damaged by heat. It has a smoke point of 175°C.
Virgin coconut oil does not readily oxidise like unsaturated oils do when heated, leading to free-radical formation. It is the ideal oil for deep frying and is safe to use several times over. Hydrogenation is not caused by heating coconut oil during cooking.
Hydrogenation is an industrial process where hydrogen is introduced into an oil to artificially saturate it so that it will be solid at room temperature. It alters the chemical structure of the oil and creates harmful trans-fatty acids. It is perfectly safe to heat coconut oil for cooking.
WILD has a delicate coconut aroma and is often described as having a lush, refreshing taste. When used in cooking, the flavor and aroma of Coconut Oil is neutralized and most people find it is not an issue at all. Add some herbs, spices, or salt to the mix and Coconut Oil becomes effectively concealed and unrecognizable.
Cooking with WILD highlights South Asian dishes and curries in a very pleasant ways. Fried eggs, roast potatoes and popcorn are delicious with WILD. Lightly brush your wok with WILD for tasty Chinese stir-fry.
For baking, we use as a 1:1 replacement for butter. Recipes that carry more dominant flavours such as chocolate or salted caramel, will mask the fresh coconut flavour completely. Virgin coconut oil contains medium chain triglycerides (MCT), which are metabolized by the liver easily. The liver produces Ketone bodies that replace glucose as metabolic fuel. Pets, Pregnancy and Baby Care
The discovery of Organic Virgin Coconut Oil began as a new mum for Coconut Matter. Giving our little one the best natural product can be an expensive affair and lead to impulsive buys in the effort to find what really works best.
The medium-chain fats (MCT) in Coconut Oil are similar to the natural fats in breast milk and in turn, possess similar nutriceutical effects. 50% of WILD is Lauric acid. It is a powerful germ-fighter and is effective against nappy rash, cradle cap and baby acne. Its anti-viral properties can also help Hand, Foot, and Mouth disease and provide relief for any sore areas. We also like to use WILD mixed with Aloe Vera Gel instead of chemically scented gel as natural hand sanitiser.
Rubbing WILD on the pregnant or postpartum belly can help to relieve itch and treat stretch marks. For nursing mums, WILD is both safe for babies, and wonderful for soothing cracked or irritated nipples. In fact, many baby formulas actually contain MCT, which is commonly abstracted from Coconut Oil. Active candida and yeast infections that develop during pregnancies can be treated by the natural Caprylic acid in Coconut Oil
WILD’s beautiful aroma makes it a wonderful baby massage oil and is great for soothing little ones to sleep. It is also a great natural body moisturiser for both Mummy and baby.
Known as “the healthiest dietary oil on earth”, virgin coconut oil is also beneficial for dogs and cats for pretty much all of the same reasons that it’s great for humans. Incorporating coconut oil into animal diets both topically and internally will undoubtedly lead to dramatic improvements in their overall health.
Coconut oil is a great oil to offer dogs, cats, ferrets, and other carnivorous mammals if they appear to have the following:
- A bacterial infection
- Digestive issues
- A skin condition
- Parasitic infection
- Suspected immune system impairment
Start with between ½ to 1 teaspoon of WILD a day and gradually work towards 2 teaspoon a day (or 1 teaspoon per 5kg of pet body weight).
In tropical countries, Coconut Oil is available in bottles as the temperature is constantly above 26°C.
As our products are packed in Australia, WILD and FREE will solidify during the colder seasons. To get the oil out during Winter, it is much easier to scoop it out of a jar than it is with a bottle.
We know food and plastic do not mix for optimal health. As a company, we did consider glass or Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) which does not contain bisphenol A (BPA). PET is lightweight, can be warmed and can be collected to be recycled. To recycle, it needs to go through a special washing process to purify and convert it back into PET.
We can’t help thinking of the piles of plastic bottles in landfill and knowing that in practice, the PET does not all get recycled. On the other hand, recycling glass can be achieved; we encourage our customers to reuse empty WILD and FREE jars as storage around the home or office. We aim to provide creative and fun ideas on reusing our jars in future blogs.
Sustainability is always a top priority for us in whatever we do. We decided on an easy peel label to make recycling easier for you. Just tear the label firmly and slowly, and you will be left with a clean surface. If there is any sticky bits left on the glass, apply coconut oil on it, leave it on for a minute, and the sticky bits would rub off with ease.

We offer international shipping. We use Fedex International Economy to ship internationally. The shipping rates starts at flat 1kg, and is most cost effective after 5kgs.

International orders/shipments may be subjected to customs fees or taxes charged by the country in which your order is delivered. These fees may range from 1%–50%.
We are not responsible for paying fees or rates charged by customs. It is the customer’s responsibility to pay customs fees and rates.
If you refuse to accept your package at customs due to high customs fees, we are not responsible for refunding that order or reshipping the order via another carrier. The package will be abandoned at customs. If you want a refund on your order, you are responsible for paying the customs fee to ship the package back to us. As such, once the package is received back at our warehouse, you will be credited for the cost of your order minus the original shipping charge and minus the customs charge to send the package back to us (if you haven’t paid it yet).
We are not responsible for reshipping orders that are refused at customs. If customs refuses a package, sends it back to us, and we receive it back from customs, we can issue you a refund for the order only if we receive the package back and if the contents are in sellable condition.
In the event the package is not returned to us by customs or is lost in transit, we cannot issue you a refund. We are not responsible for paying for the package to be returned to us or for reimbursing the customer for that cost.
International orders/shipments may be subject to the possible opening of packages and inspection of goods by customs officials in the country of delivery. We are not responsible for orders that are held up at customs, damaged by customs, or refused entrance by customs due to this process.
NOTE: Possible custom and duty charges will occur especially for American, European, Canadian and Australian orders.

If you would like to return an item to us, please contact us within 7 days of purchase. Please inform us first before sending the products back in its original packing to us. If we are not informed of the return, the item may not be properly identified. This may result in a delay with addressing your concerns or processing your refund.
